ALLENTOWN, Pa. — More than a dozen candidates are expected to make their pitches to voters Tuesday night in downtown Allentown.
Politicians seeking five offices have agreed to participate in a Candidates’ Night event from 5-9 p.m. April 29 at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 417 N. 7th St.
The “casual” forum is meant to help voters as they work toward “solidifying their decision” ahead of the May 20 primary.Patricia Engler, secretary for the Allentown Crime Watch Presidents’ Council
The forum is sponsored by the Allentown Crime Watch Presidents’ Council and League of Women Voters of Lehigh County.
Nineteen candidates will do a meet-and-greet with voters from 5-6 p.m. That hour will be a great opportunity for voters to “press the flesh” with candidates seeking their support, according to Patricia Engler, secretary for the Allentown Crime Watch Presidents’ Council.
Three candidates for Lehigh County judge — Jenna Fliszar, Patricia Mulqueen and Mark Stanziola — are scheduled to kick off the main portion of the event at 6 p.m., Engler said.
They’ll be followed by Lehigh County executive candidates Roger MacLean, Mike Welsh and Josh Siegel.
Six of 10 candidates running for Allentown School Board and five Allentown City Council hopefuls also are due to take the floor Tuesday night.
Seven names will appear on Democratic ballots in the Allentown City Council race — incumbents Darryl Hendricks, Cynthia Mota, and Natalie Santos, and challengers Jeremy Binder, Patrick Palmer, Cristian Pungo, and Ben Stemrich.
Luis Acevedo is running a write-in campaign after he missed a filing deadline to appear on the ballot.
The forum is set to culminate with Allentown mayoral candidates Matt Tuerk and Ed Zucal.
Engler said she hopes the “casual” forum helps voters as they work toward “solidifying their decision” ahead of the May 20 primary.
