WFMZ-TV news anchor Rob Vaughn announces his retirement from Channel 69 during the 5 p.m. news program on Friday, June 14, 2024. Vaughn's last day on the air will be July 12.

SALISBURY TWP., Pa. - Longtime Channel 69 news anchor Rob Vaughn will retire after nearly 37 years with the station.

Vaughn announced his plans on WFMZ-TV’s 5 p.m. news program Friday.

“It’s time for me to call it a day,” he said. “I’ve been at the anchor desk for nearly 37 years and it’s time – time to retire.

“I've been thinking about it for quite a while. My wife Angela has been retired for a few years, and she's been nudging me to join her in retirement. It’s pretty good, apparently.”

Vaughn, who announced earlier this year that he was being treated for prostate cancer, said that had nothing to do with his stepping down.

“Actually, I had planned a mid-2024 retirement before my diagnosis, and I'm just sticking to that timeline,” he said.

Vaughn joined the station in 1987 and has been its face for nearly four decades. WFMZ said his last day on air will be July 12.

The station said it will commemorate his career with a special tribute at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10.

“I'll have a lot more to say before mid-July comes, and I know people here will have more to say about me – as awkward as that might be,” Vaughn told viewers.

“For now, let me just say what a privilege it has been to work with this great news team. With Wendy (Davis), of course, and with the dozens of others who put our newscasts together, and the hundreds of journalists I've worked with here over the years.

“It has been a great, great honor."
