ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Drivers whose license plates have seen better days now have a chance to replace them.
A free event to help residents with peeling or illegible license plates will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at the AAA office at 2072 Downyflake Lane.
There will be officers on site to sign applicable state Transportation Department forms verifying a plate is illegible. The form will be submitted to PennDOT and a new plate delivered in the mail for free.
According to PennDOT standards, a license plate is considered illegible when one or more numbers or letters are not recognizable from 50 feet. A license plate also is considered illegible if there is blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity.
The event will be held through an agreement among the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force, AAA and the Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority.
