ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Great Allentown Fair will soon welcome thousands of visitors, and in preparation, will close its gates to through traffic this week.
Starting Wednesday, gates will close between Liberty and Chew Streets, the north and south borders of the grounds, a news release said.

Patrons visiting Ritz Barbecue or the Fair box office will need to use Gate 2 on Chew Street, just west of 17th Street, to enter the fairgrounds.
The fairgrounds will offer parking through Tuesday. After gates close, parking on the grounds during the Fair will be on a first-come, first-served basis for $10 using Tunnel Gate 7 off Liberty Street.
Prepaid premium parking is available in advance for $30 per vehicle.
How to get tickets
Tickets to all of the Grandstand shows, along with advance discount tickets for all-day ride wristbands and half-price fair admission tickets, will be available at the Fair box office.
Box office hours are 12 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday this week. Extended hours begin on Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 3 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday from 12 to 6 p.m. Cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted.
Next Wednesday, Opening Night August 30, box office hours will be 4 to 9 p.m. and will remain open throughout the Fair from 12 to 9 p.m. Labor Day Monday hours are 12 to 6 p.m.
Show, ride and admission tickets are also available online anytime at Ticketmaster.com. All-day ride wristbands are $30, plus fees, and do not include Fair admission. Discount admission tickets are $5.
The Allentown Fair experience
The Fair runs from Aug. 30 through Sept. 4 — the unofficial end of summer Labor Day holiday.
Grandstand shows are: Styx/REO Speedwagon, Tyler Hubbard with special guest Matt Stell, Nelly with special guest Chingy, Yung Gravy with special guest bbno$, Keith Urban with special guest Faith Carter, and the J&J Demolition Derby.
Additional attractions include the DialedAction Stunt Show, Scott Wagstaff Puppetry & Ventriloquism, the “Flying Wallenda” family, and more.
New this year, the Lehigh Valley Brewers’ Guild in partnership with Lehigh Valley Homebrewers, will do full-day demonstrations on the Farm to Table Stage on Monday, Sept. 4. The schedule includes Cooking & Beer Pairings with McCall Collective Brewing Company, Two Rivers Brewing Company and Taylor House Brewing Company.
