ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A community event meant to help Allentown residents heal after a Black employee found a noose on her desk in City Hall will not happen Saturday, according to its organizer.
The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission was to hold a “No Hate in Our State” town hall at noon Saturday at POWER Interfaith in the former Liberty Bell church on Hamilton Street.
But “scheduling conflicts” with some of the event’s five announced panelists forced the commission to postpone the event, PHRC communications director Amanda Brothman said.
The panel discussion was expected to feature POWER Interfaith Rev. Gregory Edwards; Ashleigh Strange, executive director of the governor’s Advisory Commission on LGBTQ+ Affairs; and state Rep. Napoleon Nelson, who leads the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus.
State officials are working to set a new date for the event, Brothman said Friday.
