Tolls on the Pa. Turnpike will continue to go up every year until 2050.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed to northbound traffic early Sunday between the Quakertown (Exit 44) and Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) interchanges.

The closure of I-476 in Bucks and Lehigh counties will be in effect from midnight to 6 a.m. and will not affect southbound traffic, according to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

The closure is necessary to allow for beams to be safely erected as part of the replacement of bridge NB-349, or Tilghman Street, the commission said.

The following suggested detour will be in place during the closure:

  • PA Route 663 North 3.3 miles
  • PA Route 309 North 9.3 miles
  • Interstate 78 West 6.3 miles
  • PA Route 309 North 1.0 miles
  • U.S. Route 22 West 1.1 miles
  • Re-enter at Lehigh Valley Interchange No. 56

Pennsylvania State Police and Pennsylvania Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Digital message signs will also provide information on the closure.

The commission urges motorists o plan travel accordingly, and says work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
