ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A bank was robbed Monday afternoon while police were searching Muhlenberg College after a caller reported an armed person on campus, according to Allentown police.
Officers responded around 12:15 p.m. Monday to Muhlenberg College, where they swept and secured the campus and “determined that the call was a hoax,” Allentown Police Capt. Kyle Pammer said.
But an armed robbery was reported at Wells Fargo in the 100 block of College Drive while police were at the college about a mile and a half away, he said.
No further information about the armed robbery was immediately available Monday afternoon.
Police are investigating both incidents and no arrests have been made, Pammer said. A sign posted at the bank said the branch was temporarily closed Monday afternoon.
Muhlenberg lockdown
A Muhlenberg College official confirmed a lockdown just before 1 p.m. on the campus in Allentown’s West End. It was lifted at 1:49 p.m. with an "all clear" message through a campus alert system.
The Allentown School District also confirmed four schools were temporarily placed on lockdown for police activity in the area.
The schools included William Allen High School, Raub Middle School, Muhlenberg Elementary and Union Terrace Elementary.
Those lockdowns have also been lifted, a district spokesperson confirmed.
