WATCH: Tuerk, Zucal debate in Allentown mayoral primary

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The candidates for Allentown mayor held their first head-to-head meeting Thursday night as they debated at Miller Symphony Hall.

Participating were the two Democratic candidates on the ballot — incumbent Mayor Matt Tuerk and city Councilman Ed Zucal.

The event was organized by Lehigh Valley Public Media, which operates LehighValleyNews.com, PBS39 and 91.3 WLVR.

The debate was moderated by LehighValleyNews.com reporters Tom Shortell and Jason Addy.

The hourlong debate streamed live on LehighValleyNews.com, on LehighValleyNews.com’s Facebook account, and on the PBS39 YouTube channel.

The debate will be broadcast on PBS39 at 6 p.m. Friday, April 18, and again at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23.
It will be broadcast on 91.3 WLVR radio at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18, and 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20.

There are no Republicans on the primary ballot for Allentown mayor.

Other debates to come before the May 20 primary election include:

  • Bethlehem mayoral on Monday, April 28;
  • Northampton County executive on Wednesday, April 30, and;
  • Lehigh County executive on Wednesday, May 7.

All of those debates will be held at the Univest Public Media Center at PBS39 in Bethlehem.
