LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — Less than a year after its celebratory opening, the Wawa drive-thru-only convenience store on Hamilton Boulevard is, well, through.

A sign on the door of the convenience store/gas station at 6216 Hamilton Blvd. says the store closed on Jan. 5. No reason for the closure was listed.

Signage has been removed from the building.

The drive-thru Wawa that opened less than a year ago has closed. A notice was placed on the door of the establishment confirming the closure.

The notice of closure on the front door of the building directs individuals to patronize nearby full-service Wawa stores: 4900 Hamilton Blvd. and 3321 Willow Lane, Lower Macungie; 7572 Schantz Road, Upper Macungie Township; and 408 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., South Whitehall Township.

There was no response to a phone message Thursday to Wawa headquarters in Media, Delaware County, to learn the reason for the closing.

The Wawa drive-thru at Hamilton Boulevard was the second such Wawa in Pennsylvania; the first was in Falls Township, Bucks County. That location closed last fall.

Located in front of Movie Tavern Trexlertown, the Wawa Drive-thru opened on Feb. 8 to great fanfare, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, T-shirt giveaways and a hoagie-making competition between members of the Lower Macungie Fire Department and Macungie Ambulance.

The Wawa employed 25 workers.
