ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A 15-year-old student at William Allen High School was arrested Monday after police said school security officers found a loaded gun on him.
The teen was charged with a felony count of carrying a firearm without a license, as well as misdemeanor charges for having a gun as a minor and having a gun on school property, according to a news release from the Allentown Police Department.
He also faces two misdemeanor drug-related charges, police said.
Because the teen who was charged is a juvenile, police did not identify him.
Security officers searched multiple students Monday morning after finding them smoking in a bathroom during school hours, according to the release.
That search turned up the loaded gun and a small amount of marijuana, police said.
William Allen officials and police “worked quickly and collaboratively to resolve the situation and ensure the safety of the school community,” the release says.
Allentown Police Captain Daniel Gross and an Allentown School District spokesperson did not immediately respond Thursday to LehighValleyNews.com.
