"Black Excellence" is a new exhibition at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts' gallery space.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The works of David Johns III will take center stage at a new Black History Month exhibition at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts.

A reception for the "Black Excellence" show, curated by celebrated Easton-based artist Berrisford Boothe, will be 6-8 p.m. today, Feb. 7, in the Corpora Gallery.

Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts is at 321 E. 3rd St., Bethlehem.

There is free entry to the gallery by booking a private appointment at 610-868-2971.

The exhibition will be on display through March 20.

The reception will be in collaboration with the Southside Arts District's First Friday celebration.

Johns is a mixed-media artist based in Baltimore.

On display will be some of his latest creations, including "Haints At The Threshold," "They Was Touched By The Fire," and “Lysergic Sounds At The End Of The Harder They Come."

Boothe, who has been part of more than 70 exhibitions internationally, and Jones will hold a lecture at 6:30 p.m. for Charter Arts' students and guests.

"By interacting with professional artists and their collections, our students have the opportunity to experience new perspectives on how to think about their own work."

The exhibition coincides with Charter Arts' visual arts department's Black History Month celebrations.

"By interacting with professional artists and their collections, our students have the opportunity to experience new perspectives on how to think about their own work," Corpora Gallery' Artistic Director Lorie Reinhard said in a release.

"They see how an artist truly dives into their vision for their work and see it all come together."

An associate professor of art at Lehigh University, Boothe has works that span creative mediums such as digital arts, photography, installations and painting.

He is represented by the June Kelly Gallery in New York City, The Sande Webster Gallery in Philadelphia and the Montanette T. Jones’ MuseArt Gallery in Atlanta.
