Faithfully popular Broadway play returning to Easton's State Theatre

"The Book of Mormon," one of the most successful Broadway plays of all time, will return to Easton's State Theatre on Sept. 27-28.

EASTON, Pa. — A faithfully popular stage musical comedy that won nine Tony Awards is coming to Easton's State Theatre.

"The Book of Mormon," which has grossed nearly $1billion in its nearly 15-year run, making it one of the most successful musicals of all time, will return to the theater for three performances Sept. 27-28.

Tickets, at $55-$105, go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. April 30 at the State Theatre website.

Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27, and at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.

"The Book of Mormon" is the 11th longest-running Broadway show, having played more than 5,000 performances, and continues to run.

It tells the humorous story of two missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as they try to convert inhabitants of a remote African village.

The show premiered in 2011, and set records in ticket sales for the Eugene O'Neill Theatre.

It was nominated for 13 Tony Awards and won nine, including Best Musical, Best Actress in a Musical, Best Original Score and Best Direction of a Musical.

It also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

It has had national tours since 2012.
