ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The lyrics of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” might reference peanuts and crackerjack, but the Lehigh Valley IronPigs will be dishing out strawberry pie later this summer.

Specifically, Hess’s famous strawberry pie. But you better hurry, because it’s for one game only.

The ‘Pigs, as part of their new annual City Series theme nights, will honor the city of Allentown on July 1. The night will pay homage to the old Hess’s Department Store and The Patio restaurant.

  • The IronPigs will honor Allentown during its first "City Series" night on July 1
  • Fans can buy a ticket that includes a slice of the famous Hess's Strawberry Pie
  • Hess's Department Store was a landmark at Ninth and Hamilton streets for nearly 30 years

Fans will have the option to choose a ticket package with or without a slice of fresh strawberry pie. The IronPigs will also wear uniforms featuring the strawberry pie, and the first 3,000 adults entering the park that night will receive an IronPigs T-shirt, courtesy of Red Robin.

The City Series theme, in its first year, will honor that city’s history and heritage. Allentown will be honored first, and fans voted for Hess’s as the theme for the inaugural game. Bethlehem will be featured in 2024, and Easton in 2025.

City Series merchandise is available for purchase at the IronPigs Team Store at Coca-Cola Park or online. The team will also be auctioning off game-worn City Series uniforms and caps, with proceeds benefiting IronPigs Charities and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley.

Hess’s Department Store and The Patio restaurant were landmarks at Ninth and Hamilton streets in Allentown for nearly 30 years. The six-floor department store closed in January 1996, but the famous strawberry pie has been resurrected at different restaurants throughout the Valley.

Hotel Bethlehem served the pie at its Hess’s patio at Musikfest back in 2002. The pie was also sold at the old Cosmopolitan restaurant on Sixth Street in Allentown, and the FairGrounds Hotel in Allentown has also offered slices of the pie, which features whole strawberries and freshly made whipped cream.
