FREEMANSBURG, Pa. — After nearly two years of operating as Freemansburg Diner, the restaurant at 710 Washington St., is set to return to its former glory: Spiros Restaurant.

On Tuesday, a man who answered the phone at Freemansburg Diner and identified himself as "the owner" Jeff, confirmed that the diner would become Spiros. He later added the previous owners will return to manage the diner and the change would become effective Nov. 1

He declined to comment further.

The Northampton County parcel locator lists the owner of the property as Margetis Spiros since 2004.

"The 'Freemansburg Diner' will be back to the way it was when Spiro owned it — He is changing the name back to Spiro’s." the Oct. 7 post said.

A Facebook post from Carrie Anne Doncsecz on The Brutally Honest Lehigh Valley Food Page Facebook group also announced the change in hands.

"The 'Freemansburg Diner' will be back to the way it was when Spiro owned it — He is changing the name back to Spiro’s," the Oct. 7 post said.

"I had a feeling this would happen, I thought it would be sooner. However it’s set in stone now."

Many replies to the post shared positive feedback. Kirsten Dugan called it "fantastic news."

"Happy he is coming back," Barbara Buttillo said in a comment. "Spiro's was a favorite of my dad's. For years he would go there several times a week for breakfast."

Officially changed name in 2022

The Freemansburg Diner menu currently showcases standard diner fare ranging from breakfast specials that include French toast, omelettes and benedicts to lunch and dinner specials like wings, meatloaf and chicken pot pie.

Google photo uploads from the owner of Spiros Restaurant show similar dishes.

A November 2021 Facebook post from the Freemansburg Diner said "Spiro has retired and Spiro's Diner has new owners George and Jeff."

In January 2022, another Facebook post from the diner announced it had officially changed the name to Freemansburg Diner.

Both restaurants boasted over 4-star ratings on Google — 4.5 stars for the Freemansburg Diner and 4.6 stars for Spiros Restaurant — with customers cherishing them both.

"This place is now called Freemansburg Diner, this place is still off the chain, prices are reasonable guaranteed," one five-star review said under Spiros Restaurant.

"Go there the food is great the waitress staff is phenomenal[ly] friendly, polite, if you're looking for a place to go I suggest to go here, you won't regret it I can guarantee you!!!"
