NAZARETH, Pa. — Free Summer Sundays will return to the Moravian Historical Society in August.

Those interested in participating will get free admission and guided tours of the museum. There will also be family-friendly activities on the lawn, highlighting colonial-era skills, crafts, and history. All are welcome, but organizers said families with children over the age of 6 are especially in for a treat.

  • Sunday, Aug. 6: Colonial architecture comes into focus with a look at how houses were built in colonial times. The day includes a lesson on the traditional gin pole technique for lifting logs into place and a replica of the 1740 Gray Cottage.
  • Sunday, Aug. 13: Dolls and teddy bears are invited to partake in a special afternoon tea on the lawn. In addition to tea, there will be Moravian sugar cake and a lesson on colonial-era teatime and manners. Make and take activities included.

  • Sunday, Aug. 20: A spin on colonial fibers with techniques for spinning and using yarn. Participants can use an old-fashioned drop spindle to make a yarn doll to take home.
  • Sunday, Aug. 27: Ever wonder how colonial Americans dressed? This date offers a chance to learn about kerchiefs, pockets, market wallets, aprons, petticoats, shifts, short gowns, Moravian haubes (sisters' caps) and more. Attendees will also learn how to sew and do laundry the way colonial Americans did.
