BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A bellicose Greek tale is coming soon to the Zoellner Arts Center.
Bill George, co-founder of Touchstone Theatre, will present his rendition of Homer's "The Odysseus."
The compelling performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17.
Greek gods adapted from poetry
George wrote the script for "Odysseus" during the pandemic.
He was influenced by Alexander Pope's 18th-century works, along with Homer's other classic Greek tales.
Onstage, expect to see George take on the heroes, mortals and monsters of "Odysseus" including the goddess Athena, Telemachus, Odysseus' son, and Penelope, Odysseus' wife.
Through it all, he'll be joined by percussionist Rob Aptaker, who will summon the gods with loud beats meant to excite the crowd and capture the mood.
The one-man show is produced by George's Kingfisher Theatre, based in Nazareth, and home to the Little Pond Arts Retreat.
Kingfisher Theatre premiered "Odysseus" earlier this month at Philadelphia's Pig Iron Studio, under the direction of Jerry Stropnicky, a longtime collaborator with Touchstone.
Tickets to "Odysseus" cost $25. For info, click here.
