BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Down the rabbit hole, they go.

Roses will set the scene for Touchstone Theatre's adaption of "Alice in Bethlehem" an adaption of "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll.

The free performance will take place starting at 5 p.m. at the Rose Garden on Saturday, June 29.

“We wanted to bring art to people who might have never been to Touchstone before, and fill an already beautiful park with our own unique touch of magic.
Matt Prideaux, ensemble member at Touchstone Theatre

Created by Moravian students

The interactive family-themed show was created by Moravian University's master of fine art students, in partnership with the theatre.

Ensemble member, Matt Prideaux, who led the students over the past year, said the focus was to reimagine Carroll's unique imagery while incorporating the layout of the Rose Garden located at 1001 W. Union Boulevard.

Audience participation encouraged

In the immersive performance, attendees will be invited to portray their own version of the fictional Alice as they join the cast in a guided tour of the scenic garden.

Additionally, the cast will ask the audience questions about themselves and what it's like "living in Bethlehem" as part of a cultural exchange.

“We designed the show, from the ground up, with the Bethlehem Rose Garden in mind,” Prideaux said. “We wanted to bring art to people who might have never been to Touchstone before and fill an already beautiful park with our own unique touch of magic. We hope that our audience leaves with a newfound appreciation for their neighborhood park as well as a deeper love for the brilliant works of Lewis Carroll.”

On the guided walking tour, audiences will celebrate an Unbirthday Party, participate in a Caucus Race, dance the Lobster Quadrille, and most importantly, avoid the dreaded Jabberwocky — all characters and scenarios from Carroll's beloved children's novel.

The theatre recommends attendees wear sturdy shoes, sunscreen, and bug repellant.
