BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The city of Bethlehem is aiming to address opioid overdoses around Northampton County by implementing free naloxone kits in high-traffic areas.

Some of the locations include libraries, hospitals and community centers, according to a Wednesday news release from Bethlehem Health Bureau.

Each kit will include naloxone nasal spray and how-to instructions on using it.

“The goal of this program is to increase the availability of Naloxone for individuals at greatest risk of opioid overdose as well as the systems most likely to interact with these individuals,” the release reads.

The emergency kit program is part of the health bureau's Overdose Fatality Review Team, which is tasked with reviewing overdose fatalities “to effectively identify system gaps and innovative community-specific overdose prevention and intervention strategies.”

“Increasing access to Naloxone is critical to addressing the opioid crisis, saving lives, and reducing stigma in our community,” Bethlehem Mayor J. William Reynolds said.
