Bethlehem Police Department is holding a gun buyback event this week.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A gun buyback event will be held by the Bethlehem Police Department and city health bureau from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19.

Folks will be able to anonymously surrender rifles, handguns, shotguns, and semi-automatic firearms with no questions asked, according to city officials.

In exchange, participants will be given $50 to $200 grocery store gift cards.

Guns must be unloaded and transported in the trunk of a vehicle for collection. The buyback will occur at the skate plaza parking lot at 1325 Steel Ave., across Daly Avenue from Wind Creek Bethlehem.

Unwanted ammunition will also be collected and gun locks will be distributed while supplies last.

“The gun buyback event provides an opportunity for individuals to responsibly dispose of unwanted firearms and prevent potentially harmful situations.”
Mayor J. William Reynolds

“Bethlehem is committed to creating a safe environment for all our residents,” said Mayor J. William Reynolds in a news release.

“The gun buyback event provides an opportunity for individuals to responsibly dispose of unwanted firearms and prevent potentially harmful situations.”

The buyback is supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

The program is part of Better Blocks for Bethlehem, which city officials say aims to reduce violence while enhancing the health, safety, and quality of life in city neighborhoods.
