BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of the Broadway hit “Hamilton,” will be in Bethlehem tonight to rally voters ahead of Election Day.
The Puerto Rican Beneficial Society of Bethlehem said Miranda and his father, activist and strategist Luis Miranda, will attend an early vote party at the society headquarters at 205 E. Third St.
The party is being organized in coordination with the Latino Victory Fund, a nonprofit Latino organization and political action committee.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, 44, winner of Tony, Emmy and Grammy awards as well as a Pulitzer Prize, has endorsed Democrat Kamala Harris for president.
According to the Harris campaign, he is scheduled to be in Philadelphia earlier in the day Wednesday for a get-out-the-vote event with Harris’ sister, Maya Harris. That is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The early vote party in Bethlehem is set to begin at 5 p.m. with free entry and dinner limited to the first 300 guests, according to Guillermo Lopez of the Puerto Rican Beneficial Society.
All guests with an “I Voted” sticker can get a photo with Lin-Manuel Miranda, according to a flyer promoting Miranda's appearance.
The visit to the Lehigh Valley comes just days after a comedian at former President Donald Trump’s Sunday rally in New York City referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”
The remark drew outrage and led to protests Tuesday in Allentown as Trump came to the Lehigh Valley for his first campaign rally since Sunday.
Luis Miranda, a Puerto Rican political activist and author, spoke last month at Lehigh University in Bethlehem during Hispanic Heritage Month and as part of a tour for his memoir, “Relentless: My Story of the Latino Spirit That is Transforming America.”
