This is the BASD Education Center on Sycamore Street in June 2023. The building previously served as Edgeboro Elementary School from 1924-1979.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bethlehem Area School District is planning a 100th anniversary celebration for its former Edgeboro Elementary School, and is asking alumni for help.

The district is in search of photos, videos and other memorabilia of the old school to display at the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m Sept. 14 at 1516 Sycamore St. — the site of the former school and now the district's administration building.

But that's not the only thing it's searching for.

The district is also hoping to open a time capsule at the celebration, but can’t locate it.

District officials believed the time capsule — which was buried 45 years ago — was located under a grassy mound on the building’s surrounding property, but it wasn’t found when they began digging there.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the time capsule should contact BASD Communications Coordinator Barbara Clymer at bclymer@basdschools.org.

Clymer also is coordinating materials that anyone would like to display at the centennial celebration.

The event will include historic exhibits about the school, a tour of the building, and a meet-and-greet with former Edgeboro teachers and staff.

Edgeboro Elementary first opened on Sept. 2, 1924, for elementary students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The last students attended the school during the 1978-79 school year.

The building has housed the district's administrative offices since the summer of 1979.
