ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Commercial passenger travel through the Lehigh Valley International Airport dropped 70 percent this June as compared to the same time last year because of the pandemic. But as WLVR’s Ben Stemrich reports, officials say a new hangar that’s been under construction for nearly three years could bring in other flights.
On Monday, Lehigh Valley International Airport officials cut the ribbon on hanger 11.
Tom Stoudt, Executive Director for the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority says they’ve had to turn business away in the past because of lack of capacity…
The new hanger will house larger private corporate jets, the other hangers can't. Lamont McClure, Northampton County Executive says it’s about bringing jobs to the valley.
“In order to retain those global businesses we need to provide services they need. Their executives need to get all over the country…” said McClure.
The project cost more than 16 million dollars, of which 8.8 million came from state grants.
