The Upper Macungie Township Board of Supervisors granted preliminary approval for a plan for three new warehouses.

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — Plans for three new warehouses in Upper Macungie are one step closer to completion.

  • Upper Macungie Township supervisors granted preliminary approval to a land development plan for three warehouses at 7201 Hamilton Blvd
  • The site was formerly home to the Air Products and Chemicals Inc. headquarters
  • Residents have expressed concern about the development’s impacts on traffic, water runoff and noise

Township supervisors voted unanimously Thursday to grant preliminary approval to a land development plan for three warehouses at 7201 Hamilton Blvd.

The site used to be the headquarters for Air Products and Chemicals Inc. Air Products is selling the land to a warehouse developer.

Together, the warehouses would cover 2.61 million square feet. Residents have expressed concern about the development’s impacts on traffic, water runoff and noise.

Previously, the plan was for warehouse developer Prologis to own and operate the warehouses. But Air Products' Vice President of Strategic Projects Patrick Garay said discussions with the company are “on a pause” because of the economic conditions.

“We are entertaining other interests, but in the meantime, Air Products is proceeding to essentially demolish the buildings and get the site ready for sale,” Garay said.

Township resident Ben Dobil raised concerns about the process to demolish the site's current buildings. But supervisors said the approval was for a preliminary plan, and those concerns would be addressed later.

“You're raising a lot of issues, but some of these issues don't apply to this process.”

Supervisors also unanimously approved the final subdivision plans for two housing developments that would total 142 units.

The Fallbrooke Subdivision would be a 90-lot single-family subdivision at 9160 Schantz Rd and 410 Twin Pond Road, and the Glenlivet Drive W Extension & Residential Subdivision would construct 52 single-family homes on Main Street in Fogelsville.

A preliminary land development plan for a 128-townhouse development called Trexler Pointe at Route 100 and Weilers and Schafer Run roads also got the supervisors' approval.

Thursday’s meeting was the first led by Ghai in his new position as supervisors chairman.
