MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission wants residents to be wary of a text scam going around.
Texts claiming to be from "Pennsylvania Turnpike Toll Services" allege the recipient has unpaid tolls and that inaction could result in additional charges.
The scam aims to get personal financial information from individuals.
It's the second time the commission has sent a release warning of the scam — it was previously reported in early April.
Anyone who receives an unsolicited text should not click the link included in the text and instead can file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
The commission reminds Pennsylvanians that E-ZPass and Toll By Plate customers can check their accounts through the official PA Turnpike E-ZPass website or the PA Toll Pay app.
Similar scams have been reported by toll agencies across the country over the past several days, according to the commission.
