BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Unlike the July 4 Sheetz promo where gas typically cost $1.776 that the company axed this year, the gas company will bring back its annual gas price cut this month.
Starting today, the gas station chain will reduce the price of Unleaded 88 by 40 cents through Nov. 30. The deal will only be available at the 505 stores that offer Unleaded 88.
There's currently six Sheetz gas stations in the Lehigh Valley and five of them carry Unleaded 88. Those include:
- 2901 Lehigh St., Allentown, PA 18103
- 951 Trexlertown Road, Allentown, PA 18106
- 1780 E. Fourth St., Bethlehem, PA 18015
- 5001 Macarthur Road, Whitehall, PA 18052
- 3501 Nazareth Road, Easton (Palmer Township), PA 18045
- 100 Trolley Line Drive, Bldg. B1, Easton (Palmer Township), PA 18045
Customers can check if their local Sheetz sells Unleaded 88 through the Sheetz mobile app or website.
Last year, the chain cut the price to $1.99 per gallon. On Tuesday, the Sheetz at 1780 E Fourth St. in Bethlehem was selling Unleaded 88 for $2.57 per gallon.
Regular gasoline was priced at $2.97 per gallon, plus for $3.37 per gallon and super for $3.77 per gallon.
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association describes Unleaded 88 as a "blend of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline" — that's 5% more ethanol than E10, "which is the most common fuel used in the U.S."
In the release announcing the gas deal, Sheetz highlighted that the fuel type has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency for use in cars, trucks and SUVs from 2001 and newer, according to the fuels association.
"Unleaded 88 has also undergone more testing than any other fuel in history," the fuel association's webpage on Unleaded 88 says. "Research by the U.S. Department of Energy concluded when Unleaded 88 was compared to gasoline, there were no significant changes in vehicle drivability as ethanol content increased."
The release also highlights unl88.com, which says that Unleaded 88 "is better for a customer's engine," and that its more environmentally-friendly because it "burns better and reduces toxins."
For those who aren't looking to try Unleaded 88, AAA reports that gas prices have been falling in the region — about 3.1 cents lower than last week at an average price of $3.29 per gallon.
In a release from AAA, the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area average is around $3.09 per gallon. In some areas, prices for gasoline have lowered to $2.97 per gallon.
The national average is lower too, according to AAA.
"The current average is now less than a dime away from dipping below $3 for the first time since May 2021," a release from AAA said.
