SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Dorney Park said Friday it has seen an increase of "unruly and inappropriate" behavior over the past two years.

The park announced it is implementing a new chaperone policy beginning May 7, the day the park opens for season pass-holders, to combat that.

  • Dorney Park is implementing a new chaperone policy for guests ages 15 years old and younger
  • All guests ages 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old “in order to be admitted to, or remain in, the park” after 4 p.m. until close
  • The park said the policy change is due to an increased amount of "unruly and inappropriate" behavior over the past two years

The revised code of conduct states that all guests ages 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old “in order to be admitted to, or remain in, the park” after 4 p.m. until close.

Dorney Public Relations and Communications Manager Ryan Eldredge said the chaperone “must accompany their party during entry, remain inside the park during their visit, and be available by phone throughout their stay.”

The policy states that guests ages 15 years old or younger who are unaccompanied by a chaperone “will be subject to ejection.”

“Over the past two years, there have been increasing incidents of unruly and inappropriate behavior across our industry and at other major entertainment venues,” a Twitter post from the park read.

“We are committed to keeping Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom a place where families and friends come together to enjoy a one-of-a-kind park full of fun experiences and immersive entertainment.”

When asked how the park plans to confirm the age of its guests, Eldredge did not provide a specific answer.

“The spirit of this policy is not to be punitive of our guests who are visiting Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom to have a fun and enjoyable experience,” Eldredge said.

“We will make modifications based on interactions and experiences we are having at the park.”

The chaperone must present a valid government-issued photo identification with date of birth at ticket entry, according to the website. One chaperone can accompany up to 10 guests per day and needs to be available by phone.

Eldredge said similar measures have been taken across the industry.
