ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Allentown will welcome a new Sheetz this weekend.
- Allentown will have a new Sheetz store at 2901 Lehigh St. It opens to the public at 8 a.m. Aug. 12
- The Sheetz store will hold a grand opening event starting 9 a.m. Aug. 14, featuring prizes such as "Free Sheetz for a Year" and a $2,500 gift card
- Customers donating non-perishable food items to support community needs from 9 to 11 a.m. will get a Sheetz thermal bag
Sheetz, a mid-Atlantic convenience chain, will open its new store at 2901 Lehigh St. at 8 a.m. Aug. 12.
The new location will feature Sheetz's Made-to-Order, or MTO, menu, letting customers order customized specialty drinks and food items 24/7.

Sheetz will hold a grand opening event outside the store at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:45 a.m.
The festivities will feature prizes including a “Free Sheetz for a Year” giveaway or a $2,500 Sheetz gift card. Customers attending the grand opening can get free coffee and soda for the entire celebration day.
“Allentown is a great community and our offerings continue to resonate with its residents,” Sheetz Public Relations Manager Nick Ruffner said in an email.
“We look forward to expanding our offerings to more Allentown residents and serving these folks in the near future.”
Ruffner said that with the new location, about 30 new jobs will be created, with most full-time.
“Sheetz is still in the process of filling a couple more positions at this location,” he said.
As of 11 a.m. Aug. 9, only two listings for the Lehigh Street location can be found on the store’s job portal: two store team members needed for the night shift. Ruffner encouraged those interested to check the website for the latest information.
Boosting community engagement
To celebrate the opening, Sheetz also will take action to showcase its commitment to the local community.
The store will donate $2,500 to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania, a nonprofit organization serving Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, Pike and Wayne counties to alleviate food insecurity and waste.
A second $2,500 donation will go to Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. Sheetz has been a supporter of the organization’s product donation and event volunteers.
Attendees also are encouraged to contribute by donating nonperishable food items to the nonprofit. Those who donafrom 9 to 11 a.m. will get a Sheetz branded thermal bag.
