MACUNGIE, Pa. — Mad Dogs Hot Dogs in Macungie, a popular lunchtime spot known for its wide and creative variety of hot dog topping combinations, will close at the end of April, the owners announced.
"WE ARE RETIRING!!!!," co-owner Melissa Moyer wrote on Facebook.

"Mad Dogs Macungie was an amazing adventure for Chris and me, and now it’s time for us to say goodbye," Moyer said in her post.
"All the hard work and long hours were well worth it. Mad Dogs has continued to grow and be successful, every month has succeeded the month before!! Mad Dogs has made it possible for us to retire at such a young age! That says it all."
Managers were not immediately available for additional comment.
The schedule for their final days of operations 12:00 p.m. too 8:00 p.m. Thursday-Sunday.
Sunday, April 30, will be the store's final day in operation.
Furnishings and items within the business will be liquidated to the public, the owners say.

"We want to give a huge THANK YOU to all our customers! Without Mad Dogs Kutztown, Mad Dogs in the park, Mad Dogs Mobile and Mad Dogs Macungie CUSTOMERS and of course lots of hard work, this would not be possible," Moyer wrote in the post.
"WE ALSO WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR PAST AND PRESENT EMPLOYEES! MAD DOGS MACUNGIE EMPLOYEES’ THANKS FOR STICKING WITH US THRU THE MADNESS AND THE CRAZY SUMMERS. WE WILL MISS YOU ALL and we consider you all family!!!!! Some employer is going to get some pretty awesome employees!!!! I love ya all…."
Mad Dogs is not alone in recent closures for restaurants serving one of the Lehigh Valley's favorite snacks.
Pete's Hot Dogs in Bethlehem also recently closed after 86 years in operation in March, while another hot dog shop, Willy Joe's in Allentown, closed its Lehigh Street location after a final day of service on April 22.
