EASTON, Pa. — Northampton County Prison will have a new public safety administrator next month.

County Executive Lamont McClure announced Tuesday he’s appointing Dave Collins Sr. to fill the post starting Feb. 1.

  • David Collins Sr. will become the new public safety administrator on Feb. 1
  • The job's responsibilities include planning for emergencies such as fires, hostage-taking and overseeing hazardous materials
  • Kenneth Kraft is retiring from that position

Collins, who has been with the county for more than 13 years, replaces Kenneth Kraft, who will retire after more than four years in the administrator position.

The jail’s public safety administrator is responsible for several critical areas of the jail’s operations, including planning for emergencies such as a fire or hostage-taking, overseeing hazardous materials and wastewater in the site, maintaining the jail’s security and investigating escapes.

Collins is an Easton Area School District graduate and worked as a behavioral specialist for the district before joining the staff of the county’s Juvenile Justice Center in 2009 as a security administrator.

“I want to thank Ken Kraft for all of his hard work these last five years.”
