Allentown man accused of shooting gun near school, fighting security guard

Victor Nieves, 23, was charged Monday with aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats, carrying a concealed firearm without a license and evading arrest, Allentown police said Monday, May 5, in a news release.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An Allentown man is facing charges after police said he fired a gun near a school and fought a security guard who was with officers.

Victor Nieves, 23, was charged Monday with aggravated assault, simple assault, making terroristic threats, carrying a concealed firearm without a license and evading arrest, Allentown police said in a news release.

A resident told police he saw a man fire a gun about 10 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of Spruce Street, where Harrison-Morton Middle School serves hundreds of students.

A resident told police he saw a man fire a gun about 10 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of Spruce Street, where Harrison-Morton Middle School serves hundreds of students.

The witness was showing Allentown police and a school security guard where the shots were fired when Nieves returned and fought with the guard, according to the release.

Police allege Nieves pointed a gun at the guard before running away.

Nieves on Monday night was in Lehigh County Jail under $200,000 bail.

He’s due in court May 12 for a preliminary hearing.
