SOUTH WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Bethlehem man was arrested and charged Friday, about an hour after a township man was fatally shot, according to authorities.

Christopher E. Potter, 56, was pronounced dead at 6:36 a.m. at a home in the 3400 block of Cambridge Circle, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said in a release.

Elvis Miguel Perez, 34, faces a homicide charge, as well as weapons- and drug-related charges, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office.

Perez was being held Friday at the Lehigh County Jail without the option of bail. He's due in court Monday morning for a preliminary hearing.

Several residents called 911 about a man "acting suspiciously" and running through yards near the home on Cambridge Circle on Friday morning, District Attorney Gavin Holihan said in a news release.

Police identified that man as Perez and arrested him about an hour after the shooting.

Authorities found a gun that's the same caliber as the one used in the shooting, Holihan said.

Holihan and police did not disclose a relationship between Perez and Potter or a potential motive Friday.

"This arrest occurred quickly in part because residents in the area called police to report suspicious behavior as well as the fast actions of law enforcement officials who were able to find Perez and take him safely into custody," Holihan said in a statement.

Authorities said Friday morning that they did "not believe the public is currently at risk."

Buglio said an autopsy will be completed Monday.
