An inmate charged with homicide at Lehigh County Jail was found dead in a single cell on Saturday.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An Slatington man who was charged with his roommate's murder was found dead in a cell at Lehigh County Jail Saturday.

Joshua D. Moser, 34, faced charges of homicide, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of 37-year-old David Hittinger. A press release from Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan's office on Sunday morning said Moser was officially charged in May 2024.

An investigation showed Hittinger moved in with Moser at a home on West Franklin Street in Slatington, where Hittinger was also last seen, Holihan previously said.

He said when authorities searched that home they found blood, hair and skin in the basement and a bathtub. When officers searched the house again a day later, they located more evidence.

Investigators also found Hittinger's body parts in Slatington's Fairview Cemetary, along the D&L Trail and a pond at a Washington Township quarry, Holihan said.

On Jan. 11, Lehigh County Jail staff discovered Moser, alone in a single jail cell," and "attempted to perform lifesaving measures," the release said. Moser was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Allentown at 3:41 p.m. and pronounced dead, according to a release from Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio.

Buglio and the district attorney's office are currently investigating the death.

Buglio ruled the death a suicide, stating "there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this investigation."

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death.
