LOWER MACUNGIE TWP. — Lower Macungie Township commissioners uneventfully and unanimously approved the municipality's 2023 budget Thursday with no tax increase but some changes related to fees for residents.
- The Lower Macungie Township 2023 budget was approved Thursday with no tax increases
- The board of commissioners also approved fees for township services in 2023 and increased sewer rates
- The full budget is available to view on the township's website
Township Manager Bruce Beitel said changes in the budget were not notable, as it kept the spending plan consistent with 2022.
Earned Income Tax for current residents remains at 1%, with half going to the township and half to East Penn School District. A real estate transfer tax also remains 1%, with the same division between the township and the school district.
A separate ordinance is set to increase the flat fee sewer rate by $5 a quarter. The fixed fee is now $67 per quarter per unit with a flow charge of $1.60 per 1,000 gallons. For the average resident, that would increase cost by 5.5%, township documents show.
Fees also were set for the 2022-23 year for township-related activities, including parks and recreation.
Rates also were approved for the pickleball courts, with residents being charged $32.50 an hour for Monday-Thursday rental and $35 an hour for Friday-Sunday. Nonresidents are charged $37.50 for Monday-Thursday rental and $40 for Friday-Sunday. Open court fees are $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents for a 90-minute time slot.
Disinfecting and sanitizing fees are being eliminated from rental fees as well.
The budget is viewable at the Lower Macungie Township website.
