ALBURTIS, Pa. — A new summer celebration is on its way to a small borough in western Lehigh County.
Alburtis Area Community Center is launching the Alburtis Community Days Carnival, set to take place over four days from July 3-6 at 220 W. 2nd St.
Food trucks, carnival rides by AEB Amusements and live music will be present each day as local organizers seek to expand on last year's Community Day event.
Hours will be from 5-10 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 1-10 p.m. Saturday, July 6.
"I think for this event, I'm even more excited because it's going to be really nice for our town."Community Center Coordinator and Borough Councilman Hector Moss
Community Center Coordinator and Borough Councilman Hector Moss said the last day on Saturday will be "a little bit bigger and a little bit more intense."
No fireworks are scheduled this year, but Moss said it's in the discussion for future Alburtis Community Days.
He said from his estimation, nothing of this nature has ever been done on the community center property
"It's pretty much a repeat of the first Halloween parade that we had," Moss said. "I have all the mixed emotions again, but I think for this event, I'm even more excited because it's going to be really nice for our town."
Valley's a bellwether area
He said none of it would be possible without the help and support of the community center board, local volunteers, the local Lions Club and other local groups that help out.
Moss said the group's goal was to make the event more expansive to bring excitement to the kids in the Alburtis community and communities around them.
"We wanted to do a multi-day event, because we realized there are a lot of parents that work, and they can't get to just one day of an event."Community Center Coordinator and Borough Councilman Hector Moss
"We wanted to do a multi-day event, because we realized there are a lot of parents that work, and they can't get to just one day of an event," Moss said.
Moss said he's most excited about the Ferris Wheel.
The carnival is free to enter, with rides requiring payment to ride. An all-day wristband will be available at $20 per person.
During these days, the Alburtis Area Community Center pool also will be open to all at $5 per person.
The community center also is seeking volunteers to help in various areas throughout the carnival.
Inside of the recently renovated community center, there will be bingo daily starting at 5 p.m.
There will be live music by the Kinda Sorta Maybe Band, The Boondock Barons Band, The Cramer Brothers and The Majestics on different nights.
After Community Days, the next event will be a collaborative Christmas in July event with Angel's Tree Farms on July 20 to raise money for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation Lehigh Valley.
