EMMAUS, Pa. — A big change is set to come to Emmaus' Veterans Memorial Triangle, just a short walk from the town center at 3rd and 4th streets.

The Emmaus Veterans Committee announced Monday to Emmaus Borough Council it has met its fundraising goal.

"We've officially raised our $120,000, so now we're asking for whatever we need from you that we can move forward."

"We've officially raised our $120,000, so now we're asking for whatever we need from you that we can move forward," Emmaus Veterans Committee President Ben Brown said.

The project, originally proposed in May, will have new flags representing the armed forces and new circular walkways and gardens surrounding the stone memorials that identify local veterans.

The area of flowers kept by the Emmaus Garden Club will remain, but a tree present at the triangle planted in memory of John Reiss will be relocated to Lions Park.

"That piece of property, I feel, is overlooked by too many people because it just kind of blends in," Councilman Chris Hoenscheid said at the time.

"I think I think this is what the community needs, and it's what the veterans deserve."

Brown said that despite reaching the goal thanks to a donor willing to cover any shortfalls, the veterans committee still is seeking donations to reduce the project's burden on any single contributor.

Project representatives said they anticipate the project being done in time for a dedication on Memorial Day next year.

He said a groundbreaking ceremony for the project is expected in October.

The Veterans Committee manages flags at veterans' grave sites, holds flag retirement ceremonies and organizes Emmaus Memorial Day activities.
