LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — The opening of two new playgrounds in Lower Macungie is imminent, township commissioners were told Monday.
Concrete has been poured and play safety surfacing is expected to be installed at the end of the work week at Farmington Hills Park, according to the announcement.
At Spring Ridge Crossing Park, safety surfacing also is expected to be installed by the end of the week.
When ground broke on the Spring Ridge Crossing Park's playground, township Assistant Recreation Director Kylene Gill said the playground on the nearby Danfield Run "mini park" is set to be taken down.
Gill said in July that no definite plans are in place for the Danfield Run playground lot at 5341 Princeton Road, but it may be turned into a passive recreation space.
Pending permitting and installation of final equipment, there will be "back-to-back grand openings," assistant Township Manager Renea Flexer said.
Officials also highlighted new and updated signage placed throughout the year at various parks throughout the township.
Tennis court striping at Wild Cherry Park also is planned to be finished by the end of the month, with Wescosville Park tennis courts planned to be resurfaced next year.
"We're continuing to try to improve those areas," Township manager Bruce Beitel said.
The township also recently opened pickleball courts — joining many other municipalities in doing so — at the Lower Macungie Township Municipal Complex.
Officials said updates also were planned for other parks at East Texas Park and Quarry Park next year.
