MACUNGIE, Pa. — The Macungie Diner, a new restaurant taking up the mantle of the long-standing Bear Swamp Diner at the center of the small Lehigh County borough, will open Monday, according to a message from its Facebook page.

  • The Macungie Diner will open Monday, according to a message on its Facebook page
  • The site at 202 E. Main St., Macungie, has been unopened since 2020, when the prior Bear Swamp Diner closed
  • Owners say the menu will be nearly identical to the New Schnecksville Diner, their other restaurant

The site, now owned by Manuel, Sully and Will Perez, is at 202 E. Main St., Macungie, near Macungie Memorial Park.

It will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. 7 days a week.

Bear Swamp Diner operated for more than 30 years at the site before it closed in 2020. Since then, the restaurant has gone empty before undergoing renovations by the new owners.

Talking with 91.3 WLVR-FM last year, owners said the 110-seat Macungie Diner will feature many traditional diner offerings for breakfast and dinner in a menu that will be nearly identical to the owners' other restaurant, the New Schnecksville Diner in North Whitehall Township.

Owners initially said it would open in 2022, but delayed the opening until now.

“We’re excited to serve the community,” Manuel said last year. “We’re just waiting to hire some more workers before we open the doors.”

More than two dozen diners call the Lehigh Valley their home, with Macungie Diner joining the area's lineup of restaurants such as the Hamilton Family Restaurant, East Penn Diner and Starlite Diner.
