  • Council acknowledged current Manager John A. Brown was hired as an interim in 2021, and they are now seeking new candidates
  • The position leads all municipal offices aside from police, and reports directly to council

MACUNGIE, Pa. — Macungie is seeking a new borough manager.

At the municipality's borough council meeting last week, council voted to advertise the position.

Current Borough Manager John A. Brown was hired as an interim borough manager initially in May 2021 following the resignation of Peter Melan because, according to meeting minutes, the job was "not what he expected."

Brown later was hired as the full-time borough manager in March 2022. He did not comment at the meeting as to his plans for departing the position.

Council President Ron Karboski acknowledged that when Brown initially was brought in, it was to serve as an interim in the position and to train then-Assistant Borough Manager Nina Solivan, who resigned in February.

"It's my understanding that council wants to kind of revisit that at this point and see and authorize advertising for the position again and see some other candidates."

What the job description says

The job description states that the position reports directly to council and acts as the chief administrative officer of the borough, with an overall annual budget of $7 million.

The job oversees 12 full-time and five part-time borough employees and leads all municipal departments except police.

The ideal candidate will possess "strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to operate in a sometimes fluid and fast-paced environment."
