LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. — As one goes up, another comes down.
Two bordering suburban residential developments are set to see playground changes in the coming weeks as the Spring Ridge Crossing Park starts construction on its new playground.
"Coming soon" signs set by the township nearby show swing sets, a large slide, net climbers and other amenities coming to the former open lawn space.
"They're within a block of each other. So ultimately that playground will be removed due to its lifespan."Lower Macungie Township Assistant Recreation Director Kylene Gill
The construction began this week, with contractors saying it will be completed within six weeks, according to the township.
But only one block away, the established Danfield Run Park playground, which sits on a 0.3-of-an-acre "mini park" is set to be taken down, according to Assistant Recreation Director Kylene Gill.
"They're within a block of each other," Gill said. "So ultimately that playground will be removed due to its lifespan."
Gill says no definite plans are in place for the Danfield Run playground lot at 5341 Princeton Road, but that it may be turned into a passive recreation space.
She says funding for the project was allocated from the township's capital budget.
