EASTON, Pa. — Easton City Councilwoman Taiba Sultana has announced her reelection campaign, pushing herself as a “steadfast advocate for social justice and community well-being.”
Sultana, who is running as a Democrat, issued a campaign announcement Tuesday, Feb. 18, for her Easton City Council seat, championing her “history of accomplished initiatives and a dedication to uplifting marginalized voices,” and promising a commitment to “continuing her mission of ensuring that every resident’s needs are met.”
According to the councilwoman’s release, she has been a proponent of numerous bills and legislation focusing on women’s reproductive rights, affordable housing, and parental leave initiatives.
Sultana’s release calls attention to her “standing firmly against the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe vs. Wade with a resolution that passed unanimously,” advocating for workers’ rights which she claimed, “led to the introduction of vital community resolutions,” and introducing a policy which granted six weeks of paid parental leave and five days of bereavement.
The councilwoman also highlighted her participation in community service programs including a shoe giveaway to children and adults, working with local organizations to deliver hot meals to those with food insecurities and providing backpacks to schoolchildren via work with a nonprofit.
Sultana has previously served as a commissioner with the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, as the chair of Easton’s planning committee, and as vice-chair of Home Easton, a nonprofit focused on promoting affordable housing in the city.
“As I seek reelection, I am energized by the support of our community. I'm thrilled to share that in less than 24 hours of starting my petition, over 100 voters have already signed! This incredible support marks the momentum for my reelection campaign and is more than enough to get my name on the ballot!” Sultana said in a statement.
“Let's keep this energy going! We can continue to drive real change, uplift our working-class families, and create a more inclusive and equitable Easton for all!”
