Democrat Joe Biden defeated President Trump after presumptively securing Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral college votes, winning Northampton County by around 1,300 votes. WLVR’s Gabi Falk spoke with Lehigh University students to get their reaction to Biden’s win.
Freshman Sarah Mixsel says she has never been more excited about anything in her life than the news that former vice president Joe Biden is now president-elect.
“I just think it’ll be a really nice change from the last four years and a huge weight lifted off our country. Hopefully relationships between people in our country will start to get better, and we will start to depolarize.”
Mixsell says it is incredible to have a woman of color as vice president-elect and that Harris will offer a perspective we have never heard from the oval office before.
Ethan Moscot is the president of the Lehigh University College Republicans club. He voted for President Trump in the 2020 election.
Moscot says Trump has the right to pursue legal challenges, but if he doesn't produce any evidence of wrongdoing then it will be time to live under the Biden administration.
“That's just the reality. We're gonna give him the four years to lead just that president Trump had. We're gonna live in the four years of Biden just like we lived the four years of Trump.”
Lehigh University’s student newspaper, the Brown and White, conducted an election poll in October. Of more than 200 respondents, roughly 87% supported Biden while around 9% supported Trump.
