EASTON, Pa. - Mayor Sal Panto Jr. will announce his candidacy for reelection for a seventh term later this week.
The official announcement will come Thursday at the Parkside Event Center on North Delaware Drive. He sent invitations for the announcement Tuesday night.
- Sal Panto Jr. first served as mayor in 1984
- He served two terms then worked in the private sector
- He returned to public life in 2008 and has led the city since
Panto, a 71-year-old Democrat, served two terms as mayor starting in 1984, then went into the private sector.
He was reelected mayor in 2007 and has since served four consecutive terms.
As of now, Easton Councilman Peter Melan is the only other Democrat to have announced his mayoral candidacy.
The primary election this year will be on May 16 and the general election is set for Nov. 7.
