EASTON, Pa. — Patti Bruno, campaign manager for several prominent Northampton County Democrats in the past decade, announced Friday she's mounting her own run for an at-large seat on Northampton County Council.
In a news release, Bruno said she is dedicated to public service and is committed to protecting labor rights and assisting veterans.
Bruno also ran for Northampton County Council in 2021 but lost the final seat by 42 votes to former Northampton County Executive John Brown.Northampton County election records
If elected, Bruno said, she would work to ensure election integrity; improve Gracedale, the county-owned nursing home; and prioritize everyday families in the budgeting process.
She added that she would work to support sustainable growth and environmental protection. She previously served on the city's Environmental Advisory Council and its Planning Commission.
Bruno also ran for Northampton County Council in 2021 but lost the final seat by 42 votes to former Northampton County Executive John Brown.
It was an unusually close race with four candidates all finishing within 100 votes of the last spot on the legislative body.
Aided other campaigns
Bruno's also assisted other local politicians with their campaigns, including Amy Cozze's bid for state representative in 2018, Terry Houck's run for district attorney in 2019 and Kevin Branco's 2020 race for state representative.
Bruno's entrance into the race ensures a competitive Democratic primary for Northampton County Council.
Other Democratic candidates include Wind Gap Councilman Jason Boulette, Hellertown Councilwoman Terri Fadem, East Stroudsburg University professor David Holland, incumbent Council President Lori Vargo Heffner and former Northampton County controller candidate Nadeem Qayyum.
Democratic incumbent Jeffrey Corpora has been mum about whether he'll seek a full term; he was appointed to a vacancy on council last year.
The winners will advance to the general election.
The Northampton County Republican Committee recently announced its own slate of candidates, which include Brown, fellow incumbent John Goffredo, restaurateur Juan Martinez, Bethlehem police officer Sam Elias and pilot Daniel Campo.
No other Republicans have announced campaigns for council to date.
