Eight candidates ran for three seats on the Pen Argyl Area School Board in the May 16, 2023 primary.

PEN ARGYL, Pa. — Tuesday's primary culled just two candidates from the field for Pen Argyl Area School Board, leaving voters with more choices to make in the November election.

  • The primary election in Pen Argyl Area School Board resulted in only two candidates being eliminated, leaving voters with more choices for the upcoming November election
  • In District I, Board President Lisa Hackman lost in both primaries for the two-year seat but ran unopposed for the four-year seat representing Pen Argyl
  • In District II, former School Board member Robert Rutt performed well in both the Democratic and Republican primaries
  • District III, encompassing Wind Gap, saw a lack of competition

Unofficial results from Northampton County appear to show Democrat Joe Colosi and Republican Debra Mouisset fell off the ballot in the District II primaries. Neither candidate had cross-filed in their races to represent Plainfield Township on the board.

Board President Lisa Hackman also lost in both primaries in the race for a two-year seat representing District I. However, she ran unopposed for the four-year seat in the same district, which covers Pen Argyl.

Instead, incumbent Thomas Knorr and James Frey will compete for the two-year seat. Knorr, a retired science teacher, secured the Democratic nomination while Frey, a part-time flight paramedic, lapped the field in the Republican primary.

In the District II race, the top two vote-getters in both primaries advanced to the general election. A strong showing from former School Board member Robert Rutt means he'll likely appear as both a Democrat and Republican in November. He'll share the ballot with Nancy O'Keefe, the top vote-getter in the Democratic primary, and incumbent Jeff Moyer, who secured the second spot on the Republican side.

District III, which covers Wind Gap, was not competitive. Incumbents John Dally Jr. and Jason Keenhold were the only candidates on both the Democratic and Republican ballots.
