EASTON, Pa. — Northampton County’s former top elections official announced Monday she will join the Democratic primary for county executive.
Amy Cozze as county registrar was responsible for administering elections for the county in 2020 and 2021.
“Northampton County government should work for the people that it serves. But for too long our leaders have been focused on infighting and political games instead of us. I’ll approach my service as County Executive like I did my role as Election Director — with attention to detail, a focus on residents, and a dedication to excellence in government.”Cozze in a statement Monday
In 2022, she joined the staff of then-U.S. Sen. Bob Casey as director of outreach to the Lehigh Valley. She was later promoted to director of state outreach, overseeing seven regional offices.
Before entering county government, she founded and ran Cozze Cakes, a bakery in Nazareth, for more than a decade.
“Northampton County government should work for the people that it serves," Cozze wrote in a statement released Monday. "But for too long our leaders have been focused on infighting and political games instead of us.
“I’ll approach my service as County Executive like I did my role as Election Director — with attention to detail, a focus on residents, and a dedication to excellence in government.”
Cozze, a lifelong resident of the Lehigh Valley who currently resides in Bethlehem, previously resided in Easton, Wind Gap, Moore Township and Nazareth.
She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and business administration at the University of Pittsburgh and an associate’s in human resources management.
This year’s race for county executive will not be her first run for office in the Lehigh Valley.
In 2018, Cozze mounted an unsuccessful campaign for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the 137th District, challenging incumbent Representative Joe Emrick.
Cozze is the second Democrat to announce a run for Northampton County Executive, after county Controller Tara Zrinski joined the race Friday.
Pennsylvania’s municipal primary is scheduled for May 20.
