Justin Amann announced his bid for Bethlehem City Council on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — An educator in the Bethlehem Area School District and a lifelong resident of the city has become the first publicly declared candidate for Bethlehem City Council.

Justin Amann, Freedom High School Theatre Company director and executive director of The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District, said he would prioritize a strong school system and “sensible economic development.”

Amann also said he would celebrate the city’s historical significance and maintaining its current infrastructure.

But he said he has more to learn from those around him in the time leading up to the election.

“At their core, I believe the people of Bethlehem want their schools to be strong, their streets to be safe, and their roads to be properly maintained."

“At their core, I believe the people of Bethlehem want their schools to be strong, their streets to be safe, and their roads to be properly maintained,” Amann said in a news release.

“In the coming months, I look forward to visiting my neighbors and learning about their needs and the vision they have for the city and its leaders.”

Amann is a 2011 Liberty High School graduate and received a bachelor's degree at East Stroudsburg University and a master's degree in higher education administration at the University of Michigan.

He lives in Bethlehem with his wife, Lauren, and children, Hunter and Rory.

Current City Council members Grace Crampsie Smith, Hillary Kwiatek, Rachel Leon and Kiera Wilhelm each have terms set to expire at the end of 2025.
