HELLERTOWN, Pa. — Hellertown Borough Council Vice President Theresa Fadem will run for a seat on Northampton County Council, she announced this weekend.
Fadem, a Democrat, was elected to Hellertown’s borough council in 2021. The seven-member council chose her as vice president last month.
As a borough council member, she also serves on the Saucon Rail Trail Commission and the borough’s climate action and compost committees.
“Our county’s future depends on a balanced approach that prioritizes responsible development, environmental stewardship, and the wellbeing of all its residents.”Teri Fadem
Fadem has worked as a real estate manager for the past 20 years. She argues that experience in community management, budget preparation and capital improvement planning she has accumulated qualifies her to become a county commissioner.
“Northampton County is a place full of potential, and I’m running for County Council to ensure that our growth is both sustainable and equitable,” Fadem wrote in a statement.
“Our county’s future depends on a balanced approach that prioritizes responsible development, environmental stewardship, and the well-being of all its residents.”
If elected, she would work to promote environmental sustainability, expand access to affordable housing, support infrastructure projects that “enhance the quality of life for all residents” and ensure “responsible, community-driven development,” she wrote.
So far, two other Democrats have entered the race the five at-large seats on county council: Nadeem Qayyum, who ran for county controller in 2023, and Jason Boulette, a member of the Wind Gap Borough Council.
At least one newcomer will join the council next year after member Ron Heckman announced this month he will not seek reelection.
