BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A ‘political convoy’ from a Lehigh County target-shooting facility could cause traffic disruptions Sunday afternoon, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
State police said a convoy of hundreds of vehicles will begin and end at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, which is a clay target-shooting facility in North Whitehall Township owned by millionaire Republican donor Bill Bachenberg.
The convoy is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and loop south toward the Allentown area. Here’s the route beginning at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays, according to state police.
• Levans Road and turn onto Route 329 / Old Post Road.
• Continue on Route 329 to Route 145 / MacArthur Road
• Turn right at the light onto Route 145 / MacArthur Road
• Take Route 145 / MacArthur Road down to State Route 22
• Get on State Route 22 westbound and continue onto Interstate 78 westbound
• Take Exit 49B to merge onto Route 100 north toward Fogelsville
• Follow Route 100 north to Route 309; turn right onto Route 309 toward Schnecksville
• Follow Route 309 and make a left at the CVS onto Levans Road
• Follow Levans Road and make a right onto Limestone Street, headed back to Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays
State police say they expect disruptions on other roads as well, besides those on the route.
The convoy comes two days before Election Day on Tuesday. A crowd of about 1,000 gathered at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays on Monday night for an appearance by Donald Trump Jr.
Bachenberg, a board member of the National Rifle Association, has been chosen by former President Donald Trump to cast an Electoral College vote for Trump should he win the presidential election.
Bachenberg was one of the so-called "fake electors" for Trump in 2020 after Joe Biden was declared the winner of the presidential election.
Trump and the Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, have made several visits to Pennsylvania this campaign season. Harris will be in Allentown on Monday and Trump, who held a rally in Allentown earlier this week, will be in Reading, according to the campaigns.
State police spokesman Trooper Nathan Branosky said all motorists should adhere to the rules of the road and plan their travel in advance.
“Troopers will be proactively and aggressively patrolling the region for motorists who operate their vehicle in an unsafe manner,” said an advisory from state police.
