BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Ron W. Beitler will throw his hat in the ring for another chance to serve with the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners, he announced in a news release Tuesday.

The 46-year-old Republican is seeking his second term with the county commissioners representing District 2.

That area is made up of Lower and Upper Macungie townships, Upper and Lower Milford townships as well as Alburtis and Macungie boroughs.

"I'll continue to work to ensure Lehigh County remains a place where families can thrive, businesses can grow, and government is efficient, responsive, and accountable to the people."

"If District 2 residents give me the opportunity to continue serving, I'll continue to work to ensure Lehigh County remains a place where families can thrive, businesses can grow, and government is efficient, responsive, and accountable to the people,” Beitler said in a news release.

He has over a decade of experience in public service roles.

Beitler serves as County Farmland Preservation Board chairman, chairs the Planning and Zoning Committee and was a former, two-term Lower Macungie commissioner, including a stint as president.

'Kitchen-table issues'

The county has prided itself in maintaining green space and preserving farmland over the years, Beitler said, and that would continue under his watch.

In June, Lehigh County passed the 28,000-acre mark for preserved farmland — that land also included more than 400 farms.

He said he wanted to refocus the government on “core, everyday quality-of-life and kitchen-table issues,” making note of housing expenses, parks, public safety and infrastructure.

“In a time of economic uncertainty, rising costs of living, and surging home prices, keeping government spending in check remains a top priority."

Lehigh County has never had a property tax hike during his tenure, he said.

And his time with Lower Macungie saw implementation of a homestead exemption program to either slash or eliminate the taxes of some township homeowners.

“In a time of economic uncertainty, rising costs of living, and surging home prices, keeping government spending in check remains a top priority,” Beitler said.

Local business owner

He owns Rising River Brewing Co., in the Lower Macungie village of East Texas.

“Financial solvency is the foundation of long-term prosperity,” Beitler said. 'I’ve built businesses with that principle in mind, and I bring the same approach to decisions in government.”

Beitler and his family have remained local to Lehigh County for four generations, he said.

He's a graduate of Emmaus High School and Slippery Rock University.

Lehigh County Commissioners Chairman Geoff Brace, who serves District 4, also will be up for reelection.

And former Upper Saucon Township Supervisor Patrick Leonard will be joining the race to serve the county's District 5.
