ALLENTOWN, Pa.— The City of Allentown has announced its selection to continue participating in the Youth Climate Action Fund in 2025, securing an additional $100,000 to support youth-led initiatives to combat climate change and promote sustainability.

"This program supports and activates the creativity and energy of our communities' best and brightest," said Kyle Ropski, Chair of the Allentown Environmental Advisory Council.

"With the impacts of climate catastrophe already being felt by the current generation, engaging the future generations through the YCAF is essential to raise awareness and ensure our City will continue to build the grassroots support necessary for systemic change."

The Youth Climate Action Fund provides an opportunity for individuals aged 15-24 and youth-led organizations, to create projects that tackle a range of climate-related issues. From raising awareness and educating the public to developing strategies for climate mitigation and adaptation, the fund aims to empower the next generation of leaders in the fight against climate change.

Since its inception in the Spring of 2024, money from the fund has supported numerous projects in the area, including the installation of heat-wave-friendly asphalt at Building 21, a tree-planting festival at Muhlenberg Elementary, and more.

Allentown’s participation in the fund aligns with the city's broader climate goals as it prepares to launch its first Climate Action Plan later this year.

Globally, youth play a critical role in shaping the future of cities, with projections showing that by 2030, 60% of urban residents will be under 18, according to data in the news release.

Through this initiative, Allentown joins a global network of over 90 cities committed to addressing climate challenges and fostering stronger collaboration between youth and local governments.

Full application guidelines, FAQs, and submission details can be found at the Allentown Youth Climate Action Fund website.
